It All Started.. When I Choked On A Fish Bone...
What has it to do with internet business? That’s a pretty good question and I urge to read on to discover WHY as the lesson behind could be
the answer to your limited success online.
I don’t make this story up and I was indeed quite uneasy since last Thursday when I choked on a fish bone. Don’t ask me what fish was that as
it was just the middle portion body of a fish that I know not the name. I didn’t go to see a doctor on the first 4 days after I choked as it has
become a habit since childhood that I will try all traditional methods before consulting a doctor. (Being brought up in a lower middle class
family, the saying “a penny saved is a penny earned” applies accurately on me).
I was still quite undecided on Mon (the 5th day) whether I should consult to a doctor somehow. My mum suggested that the bone should have
dropt and the pain will fade off soon as it’s coming from the injury and not because the bone is still there along my throat. Well, I don’t know
because the pain was not always there and felt only at certain time of eating or drinking and sometimes even when I was doing nothing. But I
didn’t believe her as I still sense the bone with my finger the day before when I tried to loose the bone by inserting my finger deep down my
throat. It really made me throw up. You now…
Then I heard from friends that if the bone was not removed quickly, the wound will get infection and develop into pus or cancer or something
like that. Hey, that really scared me and considering that I have tried all traditional methods; gulped in warm rice without chewing it, knocking
a rice bowl put on my head with a pair of chop stick (learnt from TV), drank lemon and vinegar etc) I finally decided to go to the clinic nearby
to sort things out.
I was instructed to wide open my mouth and pronounced “R” for some time as she (the GENERAL Doctor) tried to locate the bone
and attempt to remove it with some medical instruments. The bone was not found and when I relate my whole story and all the methods that I have
tried, here are what she summarized:
- Unlike nail, fish bone doesn’t have a head that prevent it from going further. So, my finger poking attempt to remove it might have
pushed the bone into the inner flesh that is relatively much tender.
- Fish bone cannot dissolve and liquefy and must be physically removed to avoid the wound from infection.
She gave me some antibiotics and some liquid for gargle and return in the next 2 days to see if the bone becomes visible when the wound
(slightly swollen part) fade away. If it was still unfound, then she told me that I must refer to a SPECIALIST.
Huh! I became more worried. And I sensed that the fish bone was still there as the sensation was exactly being poke with a needle. So, my
guess was, it’s still there.
Two days later, I didn’t return to the same doctor but went to consult an ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat) SPECIALIST instead
since I had the same pain and prickling sensation and I thought it would be a waste of time and money to refer to her again as she will
eventually recommend a specialist if she failed. Again, I told the specialist the whole incident and the medication that I have taken.
The specialist did a simple scan on my throat with the video right in front of me and told me that my throat was clear but just a wound. And
he further explained that:
- Fish bones can dissolve and liquefy even though if it’s stuck along the throat which was an opposite of what the general doctor told me.
(This alone gave me an immediate relief)
- If the bone was still there along the throat, I should have felt the pain 24/7 and not at certain time or action only.
He didn’t prescribe any medicine for me but just a ¼ filled bottle of liquid to gargle. He told me that no antibiotic is necessary as the
wound will heal naturally and will not get infected.
To be honest, the pain and the same feel is still right there even today butdue to the fact that these
words were uttered by a SPECIALIST, the pain is “gone”. You read that right – the pain is there and it feels exactly just like
before but I feel healed.
Did you get the message? Brand yourself as an EXPERT / SPECIALIST in your chosen niche and people will listen and follow you
piously. Take for example the Internet Marketing industry, when people want to get affiliate marketing advice, they’ll look for Ewen Chia who has
brand himself as a Super Affiliate. And Perry Marshall on Adwords, John Reese on web 2.0 web traffic, Alvin Phang on Blogging, Jimmy D. Brown on list building, Michel Fortin on copywriting, Brad Fallon
on SEO, Mike Filsaime on viral marketing and so on.
If you’ve ever been asking yourself “Should I promote a product that I have not tried”; look at it this way – “Will it spoil my name?”. While
it’s never possible to buy each and every product that you want to promote (esp. affiliate marketing), you must at least do some proper research
on the product to find out the feedback it’s getting from users before giving your recommendations to your list or others. Always bear in mind
that your brand name is important in the long run and for a healthy online business progress.
Cheers!
